You might like The Fog is you have never read an actual ghost story, or, better yet, never read anything at all. There is nothing scary or "haunting" or original here. The "horror" is all cheap and cartoony special effects. Ghost fog rolls in on modern American island town, with ghost ship attached. If that description gave you chills, watch the movie, if not, don't waste your time.
You might be able to read some kind of allegory into it about the shit you do in this life biting your descendants in the ass. I won't bother. This is a movie for the short-bus people.
